Some inkjet printers use solid ink in the printing heads, which can be used for high volume print jobs. The solid ink cartridges are capable of printing without bleeds, but they usually require frequent replacement. The dye-sublimation printers utilize cartridges that contain dye molecules, or inks, instead of ink cartridges to achieve consistent color appearance throughout the full gamut of the color spectrum.
In most inkjet printers, the inks are contained within printed plastic cartridges. These toner cartridges are designed to produce black text and graphics, in equal quantities. The toner cartridges are usually soldered to the laser printer head, either as individual units or in “packs”, where each unit is designed to fit into the appropriate slot. In some high-end printers, separate toner cartridges and toner fluid are required.
Laser printers employ a different printing technology from inkjet printers. Rather than using ink cartridges to supply inks, the laser printer head automatically determines the required ink based upon the measured dimensions of the area to be printed. After determining which colors will be used, it cycles on and prints the required pages per color. While both inkjet and laser printers can achieve quality printing, they employ very different technologies. This means that while both may deliver crisp, high-quality printing, they perform in very different ways.
It is important to consider the differences between these two technologies when shopping for an inkjet printer or replacement inkjet printer cartridge. The key benefit to the laser printers is that they are typically found in higher end professional grade devices. The laser printers also generally deliver a more consistent and better toner performance and offer greater page stability. While not as well suited for a home office environment, there are also some good laser printers available for inkjet printers that can be used for printing standard documents as well as photos and images. However, if you need a printer that can deliver top-notch printing results with little or no noise, you will find that the inkjet printers offer the best results.
